Another highlight of Airbus' presence is the presentation of a totally new galley concept, developed in close cooperation with leading airlines and caterers.

Visitors will also learn about the innovative, end-to-end solutions from Airbus for cabin upgrade services. Offering an efficient way to enhance in-service aircraft cabins by integrating latest technologies and providing innovative engineering solutions, the competitiveness of the airline's in-service fleets can be supported significantly. In addition, visitors will be able to personally experience the cabin benefits of the overall Airbus aircraft families through audiovisual tools.

By offering the widest cross-section in its category, the A350 XWB cabin brings advantages to all passengers. Its straight side-walls provide more room at head and shoulder level. Combined with the optimized seat width, the A350 XWB cabin offers unrivaled comfort for long haul flights in its class. In addition, the larger, pivoting overhead bins enable passengers to easily store their luggage close to their seat.

Airbus offers a range of cabin services on the A350 XWB, which will set new standards, enabling airlines to put tomorrow's In-Flight Entertainment and Broadband Connectivity services at passengers fingertips in all classes. Passengers will be able to connect their personal devices, covering the full range of services. From the airline perspective, the choice in entertainment they will be able to offer their passengers can be broadened thanks to the concurrent provision of easy cabin control, common to all Airbus aircraft.

  • History was made today with the arrival of the first commercial flight of the world's largest passenger aircraft, the A380, into London's Heathrow Airport. Singapore Airlines' flight SQ308 landed at 2:50 pm local time with a full load of 471 passengers plus crew.

This first A380 commercial service to Europe follows the delivery of the third A380 to Singapore Airlines on 11 March. Fitted with luxurious suites, award-winning four-abreast business class and a new, more spacious economy class, the A380 allows the airline's customers to travel to London in unprecedented comfort and
    space.

Passengers travelling on Singapore Airlines from London to Singapore and on to Sydney will now be able to fly the whole route aboard A380 aircraft.

Marvin Tan, Singapore Airlines general manager for the UK and Ireland, said: "Singapore Airlines is delighted to be the first carrier to operate the aircraft in Europe. Among the distinguished guests welcoming the A380's historic arrival at London Heathrow Airport were Minister of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, Pat McFadden MP and Aviation Minister Jim Fitzpatrick MP.

Mr McFadden commented: "Today's flight represents a significant milestone. The Airbus A380 is a remarkable aircraft - quieter, cleaner, smarter and greener than existing commercial planes. It is a privilege to be here to witness its first ever commercial flight to not just to the UK, but to Europe. The aerospace sector is a very important part of UK manufacturing and this journey is a chance to celebrate the contribution of more than 400 British companies to the A380 programme. I wish the aircraft, the airport and the airline a long and successful future working together."

Singapore Airlines is the first to fly the A380 and has firm orders for a further 16 aircraft and options on six more.

  • The third production Airbus A380 (MSN006) was handed over to Singapore Airlines on 11th March. Equipped with four Rolls Royce Trent 900 engines, the third aircraft for the first A380 operator follows the delivery of the first A380 (MSN003) on 15th October 2007 and second delivery (MSN005) on 11th January 2008.

The third aircraft is fitted with the same spacious and luxurious cabin-interior Singapore Airlines revealed on the occasion of the delivery of their first A380, also featuring 471 seats in three classes.

Singapore Airlines' third A380 will join the two first aircraft which are being used on daily schedule service between Singapore and Sydney. With the arrival of the third aircraft, Singapore Airlines will begin operating the A380 on its route Singapore - London starting on 18th March.

Being greener, cleaner, quieter and smarter, the A380 is already setting new standards for air transport and the environment. The A380 has unmatched fuel efficiency, consuming less than three litres per passenger per 100 kilometres. Its new-generation engines and superb aerodynamic performance mean that the A380 not only complies with today's noise limits, it is also significantly quieter than any other large aircraft flying today and produces only half as much noise on take-off and landing than the former largest commercial aircraft.

The A380 has the quietest cabin in the sky, offers more comfort in every class and more space for all. The aircraft's efficiency and advanced technologies result in outstanding economics, superior performance and high operational flexibility. The A380 also provides vital extra passenger capacity without increasing the number of flights. Compared to the former largest commercial aircraft, the A380 seats over 40 percent more passengers in a typical three-class, 525-seat configuration - with seat-mile costs 20 percent lower and range capability over 1,000 nautical miles longer.

  • The Russian airlines will need more than 900 passenger aircraft over the next 20 years in response to the strong growth in this market, according to the latest Airbus Global Market Forecast (GMF).

The Russian passenger aircraft fleet of 100 seats or more is expected to grow strongly from 528 aircraft in service in 2006 to nearly 950 by 2026. Over the next 20 years, Russia will require more than 900 aircraft to meet demand for aircraft replacement as well as fleet growth. This will represent a value at current list price of US$ 79 billion. These additional aircraft will include nearly 800 short haul - single-aisle aircraft which are currently prominent in the region's fleet and some 120 medium to long-range wide-body aircraft to satisfy international travel strong growth.

The growing demand for aircraft is the consequence of the strong growth of passenger traffic in Russia, which is expected to increase at a rate of 6,2 per cent per year on average over the next 20 years, much faster than the world average of 4,9 per cent.

This strong demand for air transport in Russia is driven by the impressive economic development in the region with domestic demand growth expected to be the highest in the world at over 10 per cent for the next five years. In addition, the real disposable income per capita in Russia has grown six-fold over the last eight years. Hence, international travel has become affordable to 20 million additional Russian tourists today compared to 1999.

Airbus is confident that it has the right range of products to respond to the Russian airlines' demand over the next 20 years:

Airbus has been working with the Russian aviation sector since 1991. In that year, the twin-engine, wide-body A310 became the first Western-built aircraft to receive a Russian Type Certificate and then to enter service with Aeroflot. Since then, Airbus-Russian commercial activities have gone from strength to strength. Today, in the CIS, 12 airlines are operating a total of 92 Airbus aircraft, including 68 aircraft in operation with five Russian carriers. One hundred and eleven more aircraft will be delivered in the near future to the CIS. In 2007, Airbus received firm orders from Aeroflot (22 A350 XWB and five A321s), S7 (25 A320s), Uzbekistan Airways (six A320s) and Ural Airlines (seven A320s). Additionally, in December 2007 Airbus signed a memorandum of understanding with Air Astana for six A320s.
